Delicious spice mix you can use for a variety of Asian dishes. I have to admit, when I’m in a hurry I skip the roasting and the grinding. I just eyeball the measurements with already ground spices. Definitely does the trick. But if you have the time make the powder yourself from scratch. The flavor will always be fresher and more intense.
FIVE SPICE POWDER (makes about ¼ cup)
_ roast whole spices in a hot pan until they get very fragrant [without oil]
_ combine all ingredients in a blender or coffee grinder
_ blend until finely ground
_ store in an airtight container
[keeps up to 2 months]
