SPLIT PEA HUMMUS

August 2, 2014

I’m still sitting on a couple of kilos of yellow split peas. I’ll have to figure out what to do with it besides daals and spreads. At least my mother seems to be happy that I’m constantly trying new split peas spreads.

SPLIT PEA HUMMUS

  • 1 cup yellow split peas
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 4+ tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 lime [zest and juice]
  • 0.5 teaspoons cumin
  • salt

_ combine peas, sesame seeds, olive oil, lime [zest+juice], cumin and a pinch salt in a bowl

_ puree with a mixer or food processor until it gets a smooth consistency [add more olive oil or water if needed]

_ season with salt to taste [needs quite some salt]

_ serve drizzled with olive oil

[cover and chill for later use]
