Pizza is usually something we order in or eat out. But it’s so easy to make it yourself. It doesn’t even take much longer. Super fresh, super hot and super yummy! Will give this a try way more often now!
Two tips I got (both are great if you plan days ahead – what I never do). For a better dough: If you make ⅓ of the dough a day ahead and only add to the rest of the dough before leaving it to rise you will get a yeastier, more bread-like taste. For a better sauce: You know the great smell you get when you buy tomatoes on the vine. Apparently it’s the vine that smells so great and not the tomatoes themselves. So to get this awesome smell into your sauce you can put your sauce (cold, not hot) together with the vine into a plastic bag and store it in the fridge overnight. The sauce will be infused with this delicious smell.
PIZZA WITH TOMATO SAUCE
_ combine all dough ingredients [water is the right temperature if you hold your hand under the water and you can’t tell if it’s warm or cold]
_ knead until you get a smooth dough [dough should be more on the dry side]
_ cover with a kitchen towel and let rise for a minimum of 45 min [over night is fine too]
_ for the sauce finely chop onion and garlic
_ saute in olive oil
_ add tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano and salt
_ simmer for 45 minutes
_ season to taste with salt and oregano
_ preheat oven to 250°C
_ punch down the dough
_ place on a baking sheet
_ bake for 15 to 20 minutes
_ top the pizza to your liking, e.g. prosciutto [don’t over load it]
All toppings but the tomato sauce and the mozzarella go on AFTER baking!
