My sister in law is a real whiskey lover. So when we started a big pot of mulled wine – she would counter with ‘hot toddie’. This hot boozy drink comes originally from Ireland – it’s mainly whiskey – so no surprise there! The original hot toddie asks for whiskey, hot water, sugar and spices. So this special recipe is the Courtney approved version with ginger, lemon, cloves and honey instead of sugar. If you are having problems justifying that you want another hot toddy – just do it like the Irish. They argue that it’s good against the cold and flu – Vitamin C for health, the honey to soothe and the alcohol to numb :)

  • 1l hot water
  • 2cm cube fresh ginger
  • 1 lemon [juice]
  • honey
  • cloves
  • whiskey [Bourbon]

_ boil water with ginger and lemon juice [for at least 15 minute]

_ pour whiskey into individual glasses [as much as everybody likes]

_ top off with ginger-lemon-water

_ add 3 cloves to each glass [adapt amount to your liking]

_ stir in 1 to 2 teaspoons honey

_ feel as it warms you through from the inside
